Migrating from Clue

Bring your period tracking history from Clue into Lova — your data, fully under your control.

Migration Steps

1

Request a data export from the Clue app

2

Download the export file when the email arrives (can take up to 24 hours)

3

Import the file into Lova via Settings → Data → Import

4

Review your imported data and tidy up

ℹ️

Your Data, Your Control

Unlike Clue, Lova stores all your data locally on your device — encrypted and never uploaded to any server. After migration, your history exists only where you control it.

Step 1: Export Your Data from Clue

Clue lets you download all your tracking data. Here's how:

  1. Open the Clue app
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right
  3. Go to Settings
  4. Scroll down and tap Data Export
  5. Tap Request Data Export
  6. Clue will email the export file to your account email address — this usually takes a few minutes but can take up to 24 hours

Step 2: Download the Export File

When the email arrives, download the file to your phone. Clue exports your data as a JSON file — a structured text format that Lova can read directly.

Save the file somewhere easy to find, like your Downloads folder or directly to your phone's storage.

Step 3: What Transfers from Clue

Lova imports the core data from your Clue export. Here's what comes across:

  • Period dates (start and end)
  • Flow levels (light, medium, heavy, spotting)
  • Symptoms you logged (cramps, headache, bloating, etc.)
  • Mood entries
  • Notes (where included in the export)
⚠️

Some Data May Not Transfer

Clue-specific features — such as Clue Connect partner sharing, Clue Plus analysis, or community-linked data — don't carry over because they're tied to Clue's platform. Your core period and symptom history will import successfully.

Step 4: Import into Lova

  1. Open Lova
  2. Go to Settings → Data → Import
  3. Tap Import from Clue
  4. Browse to and select your downloaded Clue export file
  5. Lova shows you a preview of what it found — check the period count looks right
  6. Tap Import

Step 5: Review Your Data

After the import finishes, spend a minute checking that everything looks right:

  • Scroll through the calendar and spot-check a few periods
  • Check that a couple of symptom entries made it across
  • See if Lova's cycle predictions look reasonable based on your history

Step 6: Clean Up

Once you're happy everything imported correctly:

  1. Delete the Clue export file from your device (you don't need it any more)
  2. Consider deleting your Clue account if you're done with it — this removes your data from their servers
  3. Set up encrypted device-to-device backup in Lova (Settings → Backup) to keep your history safe going forward
💡

Prefer a Fresh Start?

If you'd rather not import old data, just skip it. Lova learns your cycle quickly — log a few periods as they happen and predictions will kick in within a couple of months.

Troubleshooting

The import fails or shows an error

  • Make sure you're using the original file from Clue — don't rename or open it in another app before importing
  • Check that you have enough free storage on your device
  • Try downloading the Clue export again if the file seems corrupted

Some periods are missing after import

  • Periods logged only by end date (no start date) may not import. You can add them manually by tapping the date on Lova's calendar.
